Think Differently

Think Differently Music Presents... Wu-Tang Meets Indie Culture

Too lazy to post much of a description. It's Wu-Tang with some indie rappers and all production handled by one DJ, Dreddy Kruger. I'll let him handle the rest:
Too many artists are doing their albums with radio/video songs, and not concentrating on making ALBUMS... there is no conceptual thinking. Every song is 3:30 and contains 16/8hook - 16/8hook - 16/8hook. What happened to the 48 bar banga? Or the true posse joint with no hook and like 6 or 7 MC's going in for like 5 minutes? Or songs that are interrelated but don't sound alike?

I read this comment on www.Daved.com from a fan that was giving feedback from an article Davey D wrote entitled "Too Much Mediocrity-Not Enough Passion Within Hip-Hop".

Around that time, I was almost done with the compilation and when I read it, I was like "I have been saying those same words to myself for the last couple of years!" THAT IS ONE OF THE MAIN REASONS WHY I WANTED TO DO THIS PROJECT! I HOPE EVERYONE ENJOYS IT.

PEACE

Metropolis Now - Metropolis Now

Again, I'm too lazy to bother writing a review right now. Put simply, if you like real hip-hop that is conscious of real political and social issues, you're gonna like this. If you just want something cool with a nice vibe all the way through that you can listen to with friends on nice days, you're gonna like this. If you like real music with soul and heart, you're gonna like this.

ATTENTION:

Contributors wanted. If you'd like to post on A Door Marked Pirate and become part of the crew, leave a comment with the first ten albums you'd post. Specifically albums you feel affected you positively as a human being or that you feel would improve humanity if they had a wider audience. Thanks and good luck.

The Scarecrow Speaks

Finally back after an extended hiatus. I now have a job, a new life perspective, and have been busy with college and life in general. And now, what you're all really here for, the music:

Deep Puddle Dynamics - The Taste of Rain... Why Kneel?

Pt. 1: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?mywvjfyumln
Pt. 2: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?otuyj5tfinu
NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE BOTH PARTS FOR THE ALBUM TO UNZIP AND WORK PROPERLY.

This is the thinking-man's hip-hop. Best to listen to this on your headphones while you can give full attention to the lyrics. Very interesting, left-field stuff from start to finish with many tracks leaving you pondering the depths of your own mind. Not very accessible for most people, but it does have a hip-hop sensibility with a unusually poetic delivery. Pay attention to Dose One's [it's the second] verse on "The Scarecrow Speaks." He rides the beat almost effortlessly and what he and the other emcees say is incredibly profound. Enjoy this when you can just focus on listening.

A Notice of Absence

For the next week, updates will be quite minimal if there are any at all. My apartment is being re-done so the computer will be out of commission for a few days, also I'm starting college. The soonest I think I could produce a new post is Sunday. Even that's not a guaranteed thing, so until then: enjoy what I've posted and share this blog with your friends. Also, I'd appreciate it if the people who already read this would comment on posts they liked so I know what I should post next to suit the taste of the readers. Please & thanks.

Right Behind You

Anarom - Caterpillar Roll (2009)

Found this the other day on we fucking love music, and I've been enjoying it since. It's something of a mix between techno, idm, and hip-hop instrumentals. Very nice to listen to when you're lit. Happy sounding synths and deep basslines make this a fun listen, especially in cars with nice systems. Play this when you're driving around with friends, it's fucking fantastic.

Update: Anarom actually found this blog and commented. This dude is the fucking man. Go to his blog, http://anarommusic.blogspot.com/ and dig deep. This guy deserves the 8 bucks for his new album, The Sun + Ramune, I'm sure it'll be just as good, if not better, than this.

PS: Thanks to Anarom for advertising the blog on his myspace.

No more bad times, no more bummers

No more SUV's and no more Hummers...

Andrew Jackson Jihad - People That Can Eat People Are The Luckiest People In The World

The best folk-punk album of all time? You bet your ass. Absolutely necessary to listen to at least once all the way through? Fuck yeah. Really though, if you don't enjoy this, there's probably something wrong with your soul and you should get that checked out.

Rainyday Mouse in Sky City

TRIPLE HIP-HOP POST

all albums here are considered essential, if you don't already have these, do your ears a favor.

Amplive - Rainydayz Remixes

This is fucking great if you're a radiohead fan. It's pretty great even if you're not. Long story short, the producer from Zion-I [look 'em up if you don't already know] tackles Radiohead's new album, In Rainbows, with some pretty great results.

Danger Doom - Mouse in the Mask

Adult Swim-supported venture between underground hip-hop backpacker legends MF Doom & Danger Mouse. Dumile raps about various Williams Street shows such as Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Sealab 2021, & Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law. Oh, and Talib Kweli and Ghostface make guest appearances. Excellent stuff, don't sleep on this.

Son of Ran - Tribute to Sky City

This guy is great. Another indie rapper from California that just rhymes about cool day-to-day things. Chill beats, good vibes and clever rhymes. Don't be surprised if you haven't heard of him, dude's relatively unknown, which is all the more reason for you to check this out.

Everybody Daylight

Brightblack Morning Light - Self-Titled (2006, Matador Records)

This is probably new to most of you so just click, download, unzip and enjoy. Goes best with a fat bowl and good speakers/headphones. This album is solid fuzzed-out happiness. One of my newer favorites, I'm surprised I hadn't heard about it sooner. Most tracks carry the same desert-heat drenched, distorted atmosphere as the first. This whole thing is quite soothing to fall asleep to. In short, enjoy.

Genre: Psychedelic, bluesy folk is probably the best way to describe this.

Also a big thanks to the good people over at idreverberations

IT HAS RISEN!

Tomorrow, I'll make an actual first post with an album and everything.
Until then, enjoy this short video.
